ORLANDO, Fla. -- Catcher Victor Martinez completed a physical Wednesday to seal his new deal with the Detroit Tigers for four years and $50 million, one of his agents told ESPNdeportes.com.
Martinez will get $12.5 million a year with Detroit to join fellow Venezuelan Miguel Cabrera in the Tigers lineup.
"It's official," said agent Will Polidor. "Victor passed the physical and he'll be back in Venezuela today."
The agreement was first reported on Tuesday by ESPNdeportes.com contributor Ignacio Serrano.
Martinez, who turns 32 next month, hit .302 with 20 home runs and 79 RBIs with the Red Sox last season. He missed 35 games due to injuries.
In his nine-year career with the Cleveland Indians and Boston Red Sox, Martinez has posted a .300 batting average with 131 home runs and 638 RBIs.
